MoDot West Bound Emergency Repair 2010
Overview:
During routine inspections MoDOT discovered settlement on a highly travelled section of I-470 in the Grandview Triangle/Three Trails Crossing Interchange. The settlement, at a bridge abutment and retaining wall, eventually gave way to a pavement collapse and the full closure of the section of I-470. Pyramid was awarded the contract just 14 days following the complete closure of the Highway. To minimize the potential for future collapse Pyramid worked with the Design Engineer to shore the existing piling and abutment, excavate the new span, and construct a new abutment and span. To expedite the repairs and the re-opening of the highway Pyramid and the Design Engineer worked as a Design-Build team to share field conditions daily and providing design details as the construction progressed. Just 51 days after the Highway was closed the Project was completed and opened to traffic.
